One of the first meals I cooked for my husband was this very recipe. My father raised me in the kitchen, as any good Italian does. This recipe was one that stole my heart and quickly became a meal that I was always responsible for preparing.
I can't begin to count the number of people I've made this dish for, but every single one has asked me for the recipe. This recipe will feed a crowd, so adjust accordingly if you're only cooking for one or two people.
Our family loves spicy food, but the sausage can easily be replaced with mild Italian sausage and you can skip adding the red pepper flake. I do this when we're cooking for a big group!
